Review:

There are certain key characteristics that each electric pole saw has and you should know about them before making your buying decision.

Portability

The Sun Joe SWJ800E is a corded electric pole saw which means that you need to plug it in a power supply to be able to use it.

It is a 6.5 Amp electric pole saw which gives decent power when cutting small to medium branches.

One of the good things about this pole saw is the weight. It just weighs about 7 pounds which makes it lightweight and portable. So you should have no problems carrying it around in your yard and cutting branches for a long time.

It’s a corded pole saw so you don’t have the problem of batteries running out or refilling gas. But you do need a good outdoor extension cord so you can move around your yard with the pole saw.

The weight of the pole saw is evenly distributed on either end of the pole so you won’t feel tired when carrying it around for a long period of time.

Build quality

This pole saw has a telescopic pole that can be extended up to 8.7 feet. The Oregon bar and chain are of good quality steel that should last you a while.

Cutting capacity

The Sun Joe SWJ800E comes with a 6.5 Amp motor which gives decent cutting power. It’s not the most powerful pole saw but it does a good job for the pruning of branches in your garden.

If you’re looking to cut a lot of branches and need more power then you’re better suited to go for a professional gas powered pole saw. They are more powerful, used for professional pruning and cost a lot more.

The chain length is 8 inches which means you should be able to cut any branch up to 6 inches thick with ease.

Ease of use

The Sun Joe SWJ800E pole saw has an automatic oiling system so you don’t need to worry about the bar and chain being well-oiled during use. Just make sure there is enough oil in the reservoir before using the chainsaw and you’re good to go.

Like most electric pole saws, do remember that this one consumes a lot of oil during cutting. Keep checking the level of oil every 10-20 minutes of cutting.

One thing this pole saw has going for it is the telescopic pole saw. This means you don’t need to attach an additional part to change the length. You can change the length during your cutting work with ease.

The length can get a pole reach of 15 feet which is pretty cool as it will allow you to reach some pretty far away branches.

The chain tension adjustment system is not the easy adjusting type. You need to use the provided screwdriver in case you need to adjust the tension in the chain before your pruning.

The motor is not on the cutting end of the pole saw. This makes the cutting head small and easy to cut in hard to reach places on trees and shrubs without damaging them.

Maintenance

The telescopic pole makes it easy to reduce the length of the pole saw and store it away.

The Sun Joe SWJ800E had decent cutting power but don’t expect it to be as powerful as a gas pole saw. However, because it’s an electric pole saw it comes with very low maintenance as you don’t have to worry about things like air filters, spark plugs, fuel, and gas tanks.

There is no emission to be worried about and the pole saw cuts with low noise which is a boon if you don’t want to disturb your neighbors.

The chain of a pole saw needs to be well oiled before use if you want to have efficient cuts and extend the life of the pole saw. The automatic oiler that comes with this pole saw takes care of that headache for you as long as you keep the oil reservoir filled.

The pole saw chain can get dull after a lot of use. You then either need to sharpen the chain yourself or get the help of a professional to do so.

Price

Being a corded electric pole saw, the price of the Sun Joe SWJ800E is quite inexpensive. If you’re looking for a good quality pole saw for doing the occasional pruning work in your garden then this pole saw is a good choice for you. And it will do the work without burning a hole in your pocket.

Warranty

The Sun Joe SWJ800E comes with a full two-year warranty which is good enough.

Sun Joe is a relatively new company founded in 2004 but it’s been doing some good work to develop innovative, high-quality power tools at an affordable cost. They focus on reducing emissions by creating battery and electric powered tools that can work as good as gas powered ones.

The Remington RM1025SPS is an 8 Amp corded pole saw. This means that it gives you more cutting power compared to the Sun Joe SWJ800E.

It also comes with a 10-inch bar and chain which enables it to cut branches that are up to 8 inches thick.

However, the power and length increase the weight of this pole saw to around 12.4 pounds which is way heavier than the Sun Joe SWJ800E.

This pole saw has a detachable chainsaw for it’s cutting head. This means you can detach the cutting head and use it as a regular chainsaw for cutting trees, shrubs, and branches. But this also means that the cutting head has more weight because of the motor which makes the weight distribution of this pole saw a bit uneven.

So the Sun Joe SWJ800E is a lot easier to carry around for long periods of time when compared to the Remington RM1025SPS.

It comes with an adjustable pole that can be increased or decreased in length for your cutting needs which is a good thing to have.

This pole saw does not have an automatic oiling system which means you need to remember to drizzle oil on the chain before and during the cutting.

If you’re looking for a corded pole saw with more power and longer bar length then the Remington RM1025SPS is something you should consider.

Do note that the increased power, length, and detachable chainsaw come at a higher price than the Sun Joe SWJ800E.

The WORX WG309 corded pole saw is a good contender to the Sun Joe SWJ800E.

It has more cutting power than the Sun Joe because of it’s 8 Amp electric motor. Also, the 10-inch bar and chain can cut branches that are up to 8 inches thick.

The pole length is 8 feet which is slightly less than the Sun Joe SWJ800E.

This pole saw has a detachable head as well. This means you can detach the head from the pole and use it as a regular chainsaw for cutting small trees, branches, and shrubs.

This is a good feature to have but it does make the weight distribution uneven because a lot of the weight is on the cutting end. This can be a problem when you’re cutting with the pole extended for a long time because you will feel fatigued.

This makes the Sun Joe SWJ800E a lot easier to carry around for long periods of time compared to this pole saw.

The WORX WG309 is also heavier than the Sun Joe SWJ800E as it weighs around 10 pounds.

This pole saw does have an automatic oiling system which means you don’t need to worry about oiling the bar and chain during use.

It also comes with an easy adjustment chain tensioning system where you can use a knob to adjust the chain tension without the need for a screwdriver which is cool.

If you’re looking for a corded pole saw with more power and longer bar length then the WORX WG309 is worth a look. Just remember that its detachable head makes it a little heavy to use for long periods of time.

The Greenworks 20192 corded pole saw is a close cousin to the Sun Joe SWJ800E.

It has a 6.5 Amp electric motor and an 8-inch bar and chain that is useful to cut branches that are up to 6 inches thick.

It has an automatic oiler system as well that will help you keep the bar and chain well oiled during use of the pole saw. This helps keep the cutting smooth and increase the longevity of the chain.

One advantage the Greenworks 20192 has over the Sun Joe SWJ800E is the easy adjustment chain tensioning system. This means you can use a simple twist of a knob to adjust the chain tension without messing around with a screwdriver.

But it also does not have a telescopic pole so if you want to change the length of the pole you need to attach or detach an additional part. It is much better with the Sun Joe SWJ800E that has a telescopic pole that makes changing the length very easy.

The pole length is 8 feet which is slightly less than the Sun Joe SWJ800E.

The weight distribution of this pole saw is pretty good and you should not have problems using it around the yard for long periods of time. However, it is heavier when compared to the Sun Joe SWJ800E as it weighs around 10.5 pounds.

You can choose either the Sun Joe SWJ800E or the Greenworks 20192 as they are similar in many aspects.
