It’s a great feeling.

Watching the plants and trees in your garden grow strong and healthy.

Thanks to the small chainsaw you’ve been able to prune branches and trees in your garden without spending a lot of time and energy.

But it seems the small chainsaw is slowing down a bit as compared to a few months back. You don’t want it to fail while cutting and definitely don’t want to risk a kickback because the chain was stuck in the wood.

Looks like the chainsaw chain needs to be sharpened to bring it back to its optimal performance.

That’s when a chainsaw sharpener can help you sharpen the chain without spending a lot of time and money. So let’s take a look at the Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener and decide whether it’s the right one for you.

Review:

The below factors will help you understand the capabilities of the Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener and make your buying decision.

Chain size

The size of the chainsaw chain can vary based on the model of your chainsaw. So you need to pick a chainsaw sharpener that is custom made to sharpen that chain or can be adjusted for that particular chain size.

The size of the chain can fall in a size range such as 1/4 inch, 0.325 inches, 0.404 iinches 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch, or 3/4 inch.

The good thing about the Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener is that it can be easily adjusted for the particular chain blade angle of your chainsaw chain.

Quality

The higher the quality of the chainsaw sharpener the better is the sharpening and the longer will it last.

The Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener has decent quality but it’s not the best you can find. The cover material is anti-aging and anti-impact while keeping the sharpener cool but it’s made of plastic. So it’s not as durable as something made of metal.

The 3 grinding stones that come with this chainsaw sharpener get the job done but they are of a cheap quality which means you should have replacements at hand in case they break down.

Power

The cutting efficiency of a chainsaw sharpener is determined by the power it can generate as well as the RPM.

The Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener has a 12v battery that can generate 40W power. The maximum speed it can reach is about 20000RPM which is pretty fast to give you good cutting efficiency.

Portability

The Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener is very portable to carry around in your garden.

Just connect the 5.6 feet long leads to any standard 12v battery and you’re ready to sharpen the chainsaw chain.

Price

The higher the quality of the chainsaw sharpener the more expensive it tends to be. But that also means it has good sharpening efficiency and lasts longer.

The Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener is pretty inexpensive and can be part of your budget tools if you’re looking for one. It does have decent quality and cutting power for the price you pay.

The Buffalo Tools electric chainsaw sharpener has a 4200RPM motor speed which is less than the Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener but it does give you more control over the sharpening process.

This sharpener is quite flexible and you can mount it on the wall or on a bench in your workshop. Like the Timber Tuff sharpener, it can be used to sharpen chains that vary in size ranging from 0.05 inch to 0.08 inch.

The Buffalo Tools sharpener is not as portable as the Timber Tuff one because it has to be mounted before it can be used.

The quality of the Buffalo Tools sharpener is much better as compared to the Timber Tuff one but that also makes it slightly more expensive.

The Oregon Sure Sharp chainsaw sharpener is quite similar to the Timber Tuff when it comes to portability. It also needs to be plugged into a 12v battery before it can be used.

It’s easy to use and comes with a quick-adjust sharpening guide that will help get uniformity in the cutters.

The Oregon Sure Sharp comes with two sharpening stones that will help you get good cutting performance for some time.

Like the Timber Tuff chainsaw sharpener, this one comes with a high-impact motor in a plastic housing so that it can remain cool while cutting. The plastic does tend to be slippery to hold as it is smooth and does not have any texture on the surface.

It’s different than the Timber Tuff sharpener as it has a built-in depth gauge that will help you while sharpening the chain.

The XtremepowerUS electric chainsaw sharpener is another one of the mounted types that can be used on a bench. It’s not as portable as the Timber Tuff sharpener that can be taken with you in the garden. But that means it is more stable while sharpening.

It has a 4200RPM motor that can be used to sharpen the chain with precision. The Timber Tuff has more RPM but that also means you get less control over the sharpening process.

The XtremepowerUS sharpener can be adjusted to sharpen chains that have sizes between 0.80 inches to 0.50 inches.

This sharpener is also pretty inexpensive and can work as a budget electric sharpener when you just want one for the occasional sharpening of your small chainsaw.

It takes some practice to set the chain in the right place for sharpening with the Xtremepower US chainsaw sharpener. It’s much easier to use the Timber Tuff one for adjusting based on the chainsaw blade.
