A man from Tennessee, Blake Henderson, was flying in a small plane while recording another aircraft on his Samsung Galaxy S5 when his phone unexpectedly got sucked out of the plane’s window. Amazingly, the phone survived the fall and ended up being discovered by a man who was tending to his yard.
The 2-minute video above captures the phone’s unexpected journey.
Henderson’s nephew, Robert Ryan, explains that his uncle “encountered severe turbulence while quickly filming the plane seen at the beginning of the video.” The turbulence caused the phone to be sucked out of the aircraft and drop approximately 1,000 feet.
Remarkably, the phone landed right in the middle of a soft pile of hedge trimmings, cushioning its fall. The man in the yard was taken aback to find a phone on the ground that was still recording.

“Oop. Here’s your phone,” the first voice in the video remarks.
“This isn’t my phone!” the man working in his yard responds. “Mine’s in my pocket, and it’s also recording…”
The man’s wife then reviewed the phone’s photos and videos, spotting the airplane footage, and managed to return the phone to Henderson. Here’s an image of where the phone landed:
