About Kevin Rodrigues

Hi, I’m Kevin, the founder of GardeningMentor.com.

From a young age, I’ve loved to be in the company of plants and animals. But living in the city of Mumbai means that it does not come easy.

That’s why I loved the yearly vacations to my native place of Mangalore where I could enjoy nature in all its glory. Here’s a picture I took while on my morning walk through the village.

Until recently, I was not into gardening because of my limited mindset. Living in an apartment, I thought it was not possible to start a garden. I thought I needed a much bigger space near the house.

That mindset was reinforced when I was on a work assignment in Oslo. I lived in a large house with a big garden where there were roses, tulips, raspberries, and apples growing. It was beautiful to be able to watch the plants grow and enjoy the fruits and flowers.

But when my work ended and I had to return back to Mumbai, I was unhappy about not having my own garden.

One day I learned how some neighbors are able to grow their own vegetables on the terrace of their building. They were using container gardening and I wanted to know more.

I started learning about gardening and ways to be able to grow my own food using container gardening.

My mission is to help you grow your own food even if you have limited space.

I’ve successfully completed Certification in Home Horticulture from Oregon State University. I’ve also completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Horticulture And Landscape Gardening from Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College, Mumbai University.

I’ve had the benefit to learn about organic gardening from some of the best gardeners and horticulturists. I have a certification in Organic Home Gardening by Nature First Horticultures. I’ve also undergone training by Joe Lamp’l for courses including Beginning Gardening Fundamentals, Master Seed Starting, and Master Pests, Diseases, and Weeds.

How I want to help

My goal is to be able to grow as many fruits and vegetables as possible in the limited space of my apartment. And I want to show you how you can do the same.

I’ll start growing the plants and post all the information about my experiences on this website. This can help you learn from my mistakes and success and help you grow your own plants.

I’ve grown pepper plants, cilantro, spinach, amaranth, and basil on the small balcony of my apartment.

I’ll also post tips and guides as I learn more about the wonderful world of gardening. Most of what I learn will be from books, blogs, and courses from successful gardeners.

You’ll also find review articles about gardening tools that can be beneficial when you have a garden. This information is based on extensive feedback from customers who are using these products.
