Portability

The Poulan Pro PPB40PS is a cordless pole saw that comes with a 40V Lithium-Ion battery. It weighs about 11.6 pounds which is not the most lightweight pole saw in its class but it’s still light enough to carry around.

The weight of the pole saw is evenly distributed on either end of the pole so you won’t feel tired when carrying it around for a long period of time.

The issue with cordless pole saws can be that the battery charge runs out fast and you cannot keep cutting for a long time without a recharge.

However, the good thing about the Poulan Pro PPB40PS is that the battery charge lasts for a long time. This means that you can cut for a long time without worrying about the battery levels.

The battery that comes with this pole saw can be used in the other tools that are available from Poulan. So if you’re a Poulan guy and have other Poulan gardening power tools then it’s a handy feature to have.

Build quality

This pole saw has an aluminum shaft that can be extended up to 8 feet. Both the pole and the bar and chain are of high-quality steel that should last you for a long time.

Cutting capacity

The Poulan Pro PPB40PS cordless pole saw has a 40V battery and a 2Ah charger that comes with it.

Full charging of the battery takes about 60 minutes and will last you for a couple of hours. This means that you can use the pole saw for a long time without worrying about the battery dying on you.

This pole saw has surprising power that is comparable to a gas pole saw. Which means you’ll be cutting those hard to reach branches quickly and with ease.

So if you’re someone who does a lot of cutting in your garden then the Poulan Pro should be a good choice because of its long-lasting battery and good cutting performance.

The chain length is 8 inches which means you should be able to cut any branch up to 6 inches thick with ease.

Ease of use

The Poulan Pro PPB40PS comes with an automatic oiling system so you don’t need to worry about manually oiling the bar and chain before and during use.

However, like other cordless pole saws, this one consumes a lot of oil during cutting. So every 20 minutes or so keep checking the level of oil in the reservoir to make sure it’s not running low.

Like the Greenworks 20672 pole saw, the pole is extendable to 8 feet by an attachment but it’s not a telescopic pole. You need to spend time and effort with the extension part before you can use it to reach the hard to reach branches.

However, because it can be broken down into three parts, the pole saw is convenient to put in storage.

One good thing about this pole saw is that it comes with a front-adjust chain tensioning system. It’s quite common for pole saw chains to loosen with use so it’s convenient to be able to tighten the chain with a turn of a knob.

The motor is not on the cutting end of the pole saw. This makes the cutting head small and easy to cut in hard to reach places on trees and shrubs without damaging them.

The guide bar is attached at an angle that makes it easy to cut branches from the top without putting a lot of pressure on it.

Maintenance

The pole saw divides into three pieces: the pole saw holding end, the middle pole extension, and the cutting end chainsaw. This makes it easy for storage.

The Poulan Pro PPB40PS has cut power comparable to a gas pole saw. But being a cordless pole saw it’s much cheaper than a gas one. It requires low maintenance than a gas pole saw because you don’t have to mix oil and gas and keep the air filters clean.

There is no emission to be worried about and the pole saw cuts with low noise which is a boon if you don’t want to disturb your neighbors.

The chain of a pole saw needs to be well oiled before use if you want to have efficient cuts and extend the life of the pole saw. The automatic oiler that comes with this pole saw takes care of that headache for you as long as you keep the oil reservoir filled.

The pole saw chain can get dull after a lot of use. You then either need to sharpen the chain yourself or get the help of a professional to do so.

Price

The price of the Poulan Pro PPB40PS is comparable to the Greenworks 20672 cordless pole saw. So if you’re looking for a good quality cordless pole saw at a reasonable price then the Poulan Pro PPB40PS is worth the consideration.

Warranty

The Poulan Pro pole saw comes with a limited four-year warranty on the pole saw and a two-year warranty on the battery and charger.

The Poulan brand belongs to Husqvarna which is a well-known Swedish company that has been making good quality power tools for a long time. So you can be assured of the high quality that comes with this brand.

Compared to the Poulan Pro PPB40PS it has a smaller battery of 20V but it weighs just 6.3 pounds which makes it almost half the weight.

Like the Poulan Pro, the Black+Decker LPP120 has a good weight distribution across the entire pole saw which makes it easy to cut for long periods of time without you having to stop for a breather.

One drawback of the Black+Decker LPP120 is that it does not have an automatic oiling system. This means that you manually need to put oil on the bar and chain before and during use.

If you’re looking for a lightweight, high-quality cordless pole saw then the Black+Decker LPP120 is a good pole saw to consider.

Where Oregon stands out from the Poulan Pro is that it has a very good cutting power. Now the Poulan Pro has some good cutting power as well but this one is just a tad better.

However, with great power comes a higher price. The Oregon PS250-E6 costs almost twice the Poulan Pro PPB40PS.
