How To Grow

  1. Choose Your Potato Variety: Select a potato variety suitable for container gardening, such as fingerling or Yukon Gold.
  2. Prepare Your Seed Potatoes: Cut larger seed potatoes into smaller pieces, ensuring each piece has at least one or two eyes (sprouts).
  3. Select a Container: Pick a large container with drainage holes at the bottom, at least 12-18 inches deep and wide.
  4. Fill the Container: Add a few inches of well-draining soil to the bottom of the container.
  5. Plant Your Potatoes: Place your prepared seed potatoes, with the eyes facing up, on top of the soil. Space them evenly apart.
  6. Cover with Soil: Cover the seed potatoes with about 4 inches of soil. As the plants grow, keep adding soil until the container is full.
  7. Water Regularly: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water whenever the top inch of soil feels dry.
  8. Provide Sunlight: Place the container in a sunny spot where the potatoes will receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.
  9. Hill the Potatoes: As the potato plants grow, mound more soil around the stems to encourage tuber formation and prevent greening.
  10. Harvest Your Potatoes: After about 10-12 weeks, when the foliage starts to yellow and die back, it’s time to harvest. Carefully dig up your potatoes, brush off excess soil, and enjoy your homegrown harvest.
